Musicians are shy to take money for their art. They’re bad at selling their music or show. They are told that making music is fun and taking money for it is “selling out”.

The first step to change this is to put on the mindset of a professional. A professional expects to get paid for his or her hard work and dedication. Only the amateur doesn’t care for the money.

If you’re offering value in your music or show, receiving value in the form of money will allow you to continue to create your art.

You create your music, and someone is happy to buy it, which enables you to create more music and evolve artistically. Both you and your fans should be happy because of this transaction.

Most importantly, don’t sell yourself short because you’re afraid that people won’t buy or your peers call you out on it.
